Wide Awake, dia 21 18h30, Londres 1
The filmmaker, Alan Berliner, has suffered from lifelong insomnia. He gets only two to four hours sleep most nights, and as a result he feels fatigued and irritable nearly all the time. On the other hand, this night owl does his most creative work while everyone else is asleep. So his insomnia pattern is highly reinforced by his proved nocturnal productivity. In any event, this film demonstrates his problem and calls upon the collective expertise of five well regarded sleep scientists to enlighten him and the viewer about the general problem of insomnia.

Based on the book by Elizabeth Taylor, "Angel", this is the story of a young woman with incredible imagination who refuses to accept the world around her, and creates her own realities.

Shady Grove, dia 22 domingo 15H15, King 3
If put into words, the story of this Japanese romance film sounds like nothing out of the ordinary: Ono, a young businessman, leaves his girlfriend, Rika, who takes it heavily, and tries to win him back. Meanwhile, she is comforted by another young man, Kono, who is secretly in love with him. Doesn't sound like much, but because of the unique way the director Aoyama handles the characters and the story, Shady Grove is actually quite wonderful and even insightful modern fable. However naive the basic story might seem, Shady Grove manages to touch important issues concerning the nature of post-modern human existence. And, although all three main characters are egoistic, silly creatures full of self-pity, they are also instantly likable and humane, refusing to turn into those paper-thick stereotypes American romantic films are full of.

The U.S. vs. John Lennon, dia 22 domingo 21h45, S. Jorge 1
This film explains to all of us, who were too young to understand what was going on, at the time, how John Lennon was persecuted by the U.S. government for simply expressing his opinion about the war in Viet Nam. How he was investigated, tapped, and followed, then threatened with deportation, in an effort to derail a tour that might have had a significant influence on the outcome of the 1972 presidential election, in which Richard Nixon was re-elected.

Nightsongs, dia 28 18h45 King
A flat in Berlin, a woman, a man, their newborn baby - seems like a harmless young family setting, really. But their relationship has become loveless, friends no longer come round as the woman constantly complains about, and all he does is read and write. His parents turn up for a visit, but remain wordless, rushing out of the place after 10 minutes. It's time to get out of the flat, the woman announces, and decides to go out with a friend- only the start of the night...This film is based on a play by Jon Fosse, a Norwegian writer, who is very popular in Europe. If you enjoy theatre you'll probably enjoy this film, if you don't, you could easily get bored as 95% of the film is set in the flat of the young couple.

Be My Star , dia 22 domingo 21h45, Londres 2
It is about a girls everyday life at the and of her school days, trying to find a way into society and her own life. But the way Valeska Griesebach is telling this story is so full of moving moments and funny little dialogues that my heart was jumping all the time when I first saw the movie. This is one of the best new german movies you can see at the moment and was followed by others like "Bungalow" by Ulrich Köhler or "Klassenfahrt" by Henner Winkler which are nearly as good as this one and can be seen as a new direction for german independent film. If you want to know what german cinema really can do you have to go and see this movie.
